Many organizations will find that they need to upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007/2010 one department or group of computers at a time. It may happen over the stretch of a week, a month, or longer. Many organizations find that for an indefinite period of time, a handful of users will remain on 2003 or older versions for various reasons while the rest of the organization upgrades to Microsoft Office 2007/2010/2013. This means that during this time frame, you will be in a "Mixed Office Environment".

But, how will your business offices deal with routing documents in this situation when only a portion of your users have the ability to route documents with the "Send to routing recipient" menu option? If they route the document to a user who has already been upgraded to 2007/2010/2013/2016/2019/Office 365, then what? The answer is found in Office Routing Plus Add-ins. Now your organization can remain in a Mixed Office Environment for months or years to come and still use routing as you did before. Note that if you need to use Office Routing Plus in a mixed office environment, Office 2000 or Office XP 2003 users will need to install and use our add-in to route documents; the native routing feature from within Office 2000 or Office XP 2003 cannot be read by Office Routing Plus users on Office 2007 or 2010. So, your organization will need to purchase and install enough Office Routing Plus licenses to cover the Office 2000 or Office XP 2003 users.

Many organizations will find when they upgrade their computing environment to Microsoft Windows 7 and try to keep Microsoft Office 2003, the "Send to routing recipient" feature doesn't work properly. One of the following messages may pop up:

"General Mail Failure. Close Microsoft..." Reported with Microsoft Office 2003 and Microsoft Windows 7

"General mail failure. Close Microsoft Office Excel, restart the mail system, and try again." Reported for Microsoft Excel 2003 on Microsoft Windows 7.
